Students visit Kickapoo Valley Reserve

A dual enrollment college credit course, Hilsboro's English 101's class theme is survival.

Whether it’s natural disasters, war, disease, poverty, injustice, or trauma, whatever circumstances people survive make them who they are. That's why survival stories resonate so deeply. They’re a testament to what human beings are capable of.

As part of the course, students participated in a hands-on survival skills program at the Kickapoo Valley Reserve. They learned techniques for proper fire starting, site selection, and shelter building, and even searched for edible plants.
