Hillsboro's Reading Buddy program pairs fifth-grade students with kindergarteners for read-alouds, phonics support, and book discussions. Younger students work one-on-one or in small groups with their Reading Buddy.
Working with an upper elementary peer builds excitement, engagement, and naturally establishes reading role models for Hillsboro kindergarteners. Older students benefit from building leadership skills, empathy, and reinforcing read-aloud fluency in a low-stress environment.
