The Wisconsin Association of School Boards has designated Oct. 4-10 as Wisconsin School Board Week—a time to raise awareness and understanding of the vital function an elected board of education plays in our communities. Hillsboro Schools is joining all public school districts across the state in celebrating Wisconsin School Board Week and honoring local board members for their commitment to Hillsboro and its children.
“Our schools are the heartbeat of our community, and our board members are devoted to helping our children grow and reach their potential,” Superintendent Rich Moyer explains.
Mr. Moyer believes the key work of school boards is to raise student achievement by:
Creating a vision for what the community wants the school district to be, and making student achievement the top priority.
Establishing standards for what students are expected to learn and do.
Ensuring progress is measured to verify that the district’s goals are achieved and students are learning at expected levels.
Being accountable for their decisions by continually tracking and reporting results.
Creating a safe, orderly climate where students can learn, and teachers can teach.
Forming community partnerships to solve common problems.
Focusing attention on the need for continuous improvement by questioning, refining, and revising issues related to student achievement.
“School board members give Hillsboro’s citizens a voice in educational decisions.” Mr. Moyer says.
“While we make a special effort to show our appreciation in October, their commitment is year-round. So please, join us in thanking them and stay engaged by reaching out, sharing your ideas, and supporting our children. Together, we can make a stronger community and better schools for our students.”
