Community Service Project: Food Drive and Community Dinner
On Saturday, December 18 the annual Community Dinner was held at Hillsboro High School. Lots of preparation went into planning the dinner on Mr. Zimmerman’s part and on Hillsboro’s FBLA chapter. During the month of December the Hillsboro FBLA held a food drive to collect items for the local food pantry and the Community Dinner. To raise more food there was a little competition between all the grades. Each item they brought in was worth points that ranged from 1 to 3. At the end of the food drive one grade won a Christmas breakfast provided by the FBLA. Hillsboro High School students raised 497 points. Some of the food was used to help make the meal for the Community Dinner, some was used to make gift boxes for families in the community, and the rest was donated to the Good Samaritan. Many students came and helped serve food, greet guests, clean up after the dinner, and deliver meals. The art classes helped make all the decorations for the cafeteria. This turned out to be a very successful event. I know a lot of people appreciated it. Hopefully we have others to come in the future!
